In recent times a legal Zelda I clone was released for the PC, known as Zelda Classic. The best part is it comes with an editor to make your own Zelda I style games, but adding certain things here and there. It is still a work in progress, but nonetheless it is interesting.

Click here to go to download it from the Zelda Classic site.

Though I do have a link to the Zelda Classic page, I also carry the Zelda I Rom, which is only a small download, while Zelda Classic is 3 megabytes. Remember, you must own the cartridge in order to download this game legally, or you can only keep it on your PC for 24 hours.

The Legend of Zelda is one of the first video RPG games in our history, and the first action RPG ever. Released in 1986, it was one of Nintendo's first games to feature a "save game" ability, as well as a massive player world. The original classic, Zelda, introduced payers to a world of fantasy and myth known as the kingdom of Hyrule.

The only real negative in this particular Zelda title is the lack of villages, multiple NPCs (non-player characters), and the famous Zelda "side quests". Nonetheless, Zelda has been known as one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

In this first title, Link is called up to unite the pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom, which Zelda divided up to keep hidden from Gannon, the dark prince. Then of course, he must rescue Princess Zelda from Gannon, himself.
